Last night, November 24 on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the first official trailer for Captain America: Civil War debuted. With the trailer’s release we now have an idea of what causes hero to go against hero in the upcoming film. While the film is definitely inspired by the Marvel Comics story-arc of the same name, there seem to be some slight differences between the comic book and the film adaptation. The trailer does touch on the idea that the U.S. government may want to register and control superheroes, which is evident from General Ross’ (William Hurt) dialogue about vigilantism, but a lot of focus is placed on Captain America and him fighting for his friend Bucky, a wanted fugitive. Check out the trailer below:
In addition to seeing William Hurt return as General Ross, who hasn’t been seen since the forgotten Incredible Hulk film starring Edward Norton, we finally get to see Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther in action. Those hoping to see Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will have to wait a little longer. Chances are we won’t get a glimpse of him until the film releases in May.
Based on the footage in this trailer, Captain America: Civil War definitely seems like it will be another adequate Marvel Studios film. Anthony and Joe Russo (The Winter Soldier) have returned to direct, so hopefully Civil War will match the quality of its predecessor, which I feel is Marvel Studios’ strongest addition to their cinematic universe.
Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Martin Freeman, and many more and is set to release in theaters May 5, 2016. Feel free to let us know what you think of the new trailer in the comments and check out a few brand new posters for the film below.
