A ‘Tower of Terror’ Film is in the Works

tower of terrorFans of the Disney ride Tower of Terror, rejoice! The popular attraction is getting the film treatment. Many may remember the made-for-television 1997 film of the same name; I know I do. But we can expect this upcoming Tower of Terror film to be heading to the big screen!

While newly announced, information on the premise has already been revealed. “Five people in a posh hotel take an elevator and disappear after it is hit by lightning,” states Deadline.

Big Fish screenwriter, John August, is penning the movie, while simultaneously producing alongside Jim Whitaker.

The ride version of Tower of Terror incorporates Twilight Zone elements into the attraction (using the late Rod Serling’s audio and video from the popular anthology series, for instance); this upcoming film will veer away from those attributes. But if you are a Twilight Zone fan, Warner Bros. is developing its own film based on that!

Several Disney rides have been turned into films: Tomorrowland (based on the much-loved Disney park) played this summer, The Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, anyone? And Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been revealed to be a part of the upcoming Jungle Cruise movie!

With so many Disney rides getting movies based on them, which one are you most excited for? Or do you already have a beloved past film very near and dear to your heart? Let us know in the comments below!
