Major to suffer utopium-based downward spiral, says iZombie’s Rob Thomas

iZombie S2E2- "Zombie Bro"

Major Lilywhite: the Zombie Slayer-Utopium Addict?

iZombie‘s second season is in full swing. The show has aired two episodes (“Grumpy Old Liv” and “Zombie Bro”) so far, and has recently revealed an upcoming story-line for Major Lilywhite. “He will hit rock bottom. He’s doing this horrible thing and can’t quite stand himself,” executive producer Rob Thomas explained to Entertainment Weekly.

In “Zombie Bro”, Major took some Utopium while he was raving it up with Ravi, who was also on the drug. But unlike Ravi, he took more afterwards. Major has been dealing with a lot just within these first couple of episodes. Max Rager’s Vaughn Du Clark has blackmailed him into being their personal zombie slayer. And with the recent knowledge of Liv’s zombie-ness, her life could definitely be in danger. Utopium will be his way of de-stressing about his current situation. But how exactly will the drug affect him overall?

Rob Thomas delves into Major’s current crisis of working for Max Rager and protecting Liv:

“That is his big mission, trying to keep himself and Liv alive. In order to do that, he has to take out these zombies. You’re going to watch him do that for a long time. It’s going to be a moral crisis for him. It’s a big part of the reason he’s going down into that Utopium well. It will be tearing him apart and it doesn’t get any easier for him for a long time.”

Don’t worry, Major isn’t just going to give in and take his zombie slayin’ fate. “He’s not just going to sit back and take it all season. At some point, he’s got to figure out how to turn the tables on Max Rager,” Thomas continues.

Like all secrets, though, someone is bound to find out. Seeing how he lives with Ravi, I suspect he’ll question Major’s behavior first. Then it’s only a matter of time before Liv knows.

And of course, Rob Thomas mentions the Liv/Major (Livjor?) scene in 2.02: “Zombie Bro”:

“We were excited about playing the moment where Liv and Major have it out. He certainly doesn’t want to have anything to do with her at the beginning of the season. At a certain point not too far down the road, she will have had enough and will confront him. That was one of the things that we wanted to build toward early that does give us a really hefty, dramatic scene with Major.”

Now that we have a little insight into Major’s plot in Season 2, anyone have specific predictions on how his story will unfold?
