Paul Reubens joins Gotham as Penguin’s Father

Paul ReubensPaul Reubens, best known for his portrayal of Pee-Wee Herman, has been cast as the father of Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin. He is due to make an appearance in the second season of Gotham, Robin Lord Taylor revealed during the show’s panel at the New York Comic Con.

In a report by Variety, Taylor said excitedly:

“He will be showing up very soon. Pee-Wee Herman is playing my dad! What the hell? Oh my god!”

Reubens is no stranger to this universe, or even to the role itself, having played Penguin’s father, Tucker Cobblepot, in 1992’s Batman Returns.

The second season of the comic-based drama will be venturing into darker territory, with the villains viciously taking over the titular city.

Taylor teased:

“All the villains are going to start interacting with each other, and not just the villains but the heroes as well… fun stuff is coming up.”

He also added that Penguin and Edward Nygma (played by Cory Michael Smith) will have a “big storyline” this season.

Gotham airs every Monday on Fox.
