Pacific Rim sequel delayed indefinitely

Pacific Rim posterSad news for jaeger and kaiju fans: production on the sequel to Pacific Rim has been put on hold by Legendary Pictures, according to Variety. Fans may have to wait a while longer before they get the follow-up to Guillermo del Toro’s sci-fi film about dual-pilot giant robots defeating giant monsters.

The director committed to making the sequel to Pacific Rim last June 2014 and the film was scheduled to be released on April 7, 2017. In April, the release date was pushed to August 4, 2017. And while Del Toro planned to start shooting this November, the project has been temporarily pushed back, though the release date has not yet been changed. Both Legendary and Universal made no comments on this development.

Pacific Rim was released in 2013 and was set in the near future where humans needed to pilot giant “Jaegers” in order to fight the Kaiju – monsters that emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.
