Patti Lupone, Shazad Latif, Wes Studi and others join Penny Dreadful season 3

Patti Lupone Penny DreadfulSeveral new cast members, including Broadway legend Patti Lupone, have joined the third season of Showtime’s horror-period drama, Variety reports.

After her phenomenal turn last season as Joan Clayton, the Cut-Wife, Patti Lupone (American Horror Story) will return for season 3 playing a new role, Dr. Seward, an American therapist who treats Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) with an unconventional new approach.

Shazad LatifAnother familiar literary character will also be joining the show in the third season. Shazad Latif (Spooks, The Second Best Marigold Hotel) will be playing Dr. Henry Jekyll (from Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.)

Wes StudiWes Studi (Hell on Wheels, The Red Road) has also been added as a series regular, playing Kaetenay, described as an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection with Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett) and who eventually becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton.)

There will also be several new guest stars including Christian Camargo as Dr. Alexander Sweet, a zoologist who befriends Vanessa; Sam Bennett as Dr. Seward’s mysterious secretary; and Jessica Barden as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily (Billie Piper) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).

Penny Dreadful‘s third season will return in 2016 with nine episodes.
