A special preview of MTV’s upcoming fantasy epic, The Shannara Chronicles, aired at this year’s Video Music Awards, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The television show is based on the series of fantasy novels by Terry Brooks.
The ten-episode first season will focus on the second book in the series, The Elfstones of Shannara, which follows the journey of an Elvin princess, a human rover, and a half-human, half-elf character as they attempt to save their world from the vicious attack of a demon army. The series stars Austin Butler (Switched at Birth), Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), and John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of the Rings).
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Spider-Man 2, Smallville) are the executive producers and showrunners. At Comic-Con, Gough said the show shared similarities with Star Wars.
The Shannara Chronicles will debut in January 2016 on MTV.
