Mads Mikkelsen in talks for Doctor Strange

Mads MikkelsenMads Mikkelsen, who recently finished his unforgettable turn as the charismatic cannibal on the third (and for now, final) season of NBC’s Hannibal, may now sink his teeth into another meaty role, as a villain in Marvel’s Doctor Strange, according to Variety.

The upcoming film stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the eponymous hero, Stephen Vincent Strange, a neurosurgeon who acquires mystical powers and then becomes the Sorcerer Supreme and primary protector of Earth against magical threats. No details have yet been revealed about Mikkelsen’s role other than that he may be an antagonist.

This will not be the first villainous role Marvel has eyed Mikkelsen for. A few years ago, he was considered for the role of Malekith the Accursed, the main antagonist of Thor: The Dark World, a role that eventually went to the fantastic Christopher Eccleston.

If he is confirmed for the part, Mikkelsen will join the rest of the talented cast including Chiwetel Ejiofor who plays Strange’s nemesis, Baron Mordo, and Tilda Swinton, who plays their mentor, the Ancient One.

But Mads Mikkelsen fans reeling from the cancellation of Hannibal will definitely get a chance to see him on the big screen when he appears on Star Wars: Rogue One on December 16, 2016.

Doctor Strange opens in the U.K. on October 28, 2016 and in the U.S. on November 4, 2016.
