Alfre Woodard joins Marvel’s Luke Cage

Alfre WoodardAward-winning actress Alfre Woodard has joined the cast of Marvel’s Luke Cage, the third in the four-series Netflix set (the first being Daredevil and then the upcoming A.K.A. Jessica Jones).

Luke Cage stars Mike Colter in the title role, as a wrongly accused man who is accidentally granted super-strength by a sabotaged experiment, and who escapes prison to become a superhero for hire. His character will be introduced in A.K.A. Jessica Jones before his own series airs.

According to Deadline, Woodard will be playing a character called Minetta, “a powerful woman in local politics who will have an impact on Luke Cage’s life.” There are already some speculations, however, that she might be playing the well-known Marvel villain Black Mariah, a professional criminal and drug dealer who is a nemesis to both Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

We’ll get our first glimpse of Luke Cage when A.K.A. Jessica Jones airs later this year.
