Moana makes waves at D23 EXPO 2015

Disney MOANADwayne Johnson hit the stage at the D23 EXPO 2015 to promote his new film, Moana. He lends his voice to the demigod, Maui. Moana tells the adventures of a spirited teenager named Moana Waialiki who sets sail on a daring mission to fulfill her ancestor’s unfinished quest. Along the way she befriends the once-mighty demigod Maui, and they travel the open ocean together. The story will take place across a series of islands in the South Pacific and will use elements from Polynesian mythology. The film is brought to us by Ron Clements and John Musker, the team behind beloved Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, and The Princess and Frog. The filmmakers shared some early test footage, as well as discussed plans for the film’s music. An extraordinary group of talented people will be in charge of the music including Tony-winner Lin Manuel Miranda (In the Heights, Hamilton), Grammy-winning composer Mark Mancina (Tarzan, The Lion King), and Opetaia Foa’i (founder and lead singer of the world music award-winning band Te Vaka). The D23 presentation concluded with an amazing performance by Foa’i, which showcased the magic of the movie’s music. Moana opens in U.S. theaters on November 23, 2016.
