Taron Egerton may be Robin Hood

Taron EgertonAfter his memorable turn as Eggsy Unwin in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Taron Egerton may be heading to Sherwood Forest for more adventures.

According to Deadline, the British actor has begun talks with Lionsgate to star in Robin Hood: Origins as the titular character. The negotiations are still in very early stages so there’s nothing definite yet. Egerton is already quite busy with upcoming projects that include the British gangster film Legend (with Tom Hardy) and Eddie the Eagle (with Hugh Jackman.)

Robin Hood: Origins will be directed by Peaky Blinders‘ Otto Bathurst and written by Joby Harold (also responsible for the upcoming Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur with Charlie Hunnam). So far, the film is described as a dark and gritty take on the well-known legend. After his return from the Crusades, the hero forms a band of outlaws to respond to the corruption that has poisoned his beloved Sherwood Forest.

But this won’t be the only Robin Hood story coming our way in the next few years. Disney has planned Nottingham & Hood, which is meant to be in the style of Pirates of the Caribbean and Enchanted, while Sony has plans to make Hood, an action-packed adventure akin to Fast and Furious and Mission: Impossible. Warner Bros has likewise put its own Robin Hood project in development.

It looks like audiences will soon have several options to choose from for their favorite new iteration of the Prince of Thieves. And Taron Egerton may just be one of them.
