Sense8 Renewed for Season 2

Sense8 headerIn a tweet celebrating the birthday of the Sensates last Saturday (08-08), Netflix announced that the sci-fi series would be returning for a second season. In a video message, the cast members greeted each other “Happy Birthday!” (some in song and dance) and thanked the fans for all their support, while also confirming also confirmed that the series had been renewed. “Birthdays are just the beginning. #sense8 is reborn,” the tweet read.

Sense8 tells the story of eight individuals from all over the world who suddenly discover that they share an inexplicably powerful bond. They have shared visions and experiences (such as an awesome 8-way rendition of 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s up?”) and are able to communicate with each other directly in spite of geographical distance. The series was well-received by both fans and critics, and the twelve episodes of the first season were streamed by millions of viewers.

The series was created by J. Michael Straczynski with Andy and Lana Wachowski (The Matrix, Jupiter Ascending). During the TCA’s summer press tour, the creators acknowledged that the fan response was overwhelming and that they were “cautiously optimistic” about renewal.

In an article by The Hollywood Reporter, Straczynski said: “There’s been a tendency for science fiction to be seen as something other than for adults – it tends to be either the MacGuffin, the device, the magic, the gadget, the gimmick or the mission. We wanted to make this show about the journey and [do something] for grown-ups.”

And what a journey it’s been so far. If you still haven’t binge-watched Sense8, now’s a good time to start.
