Prepare for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ with ‘Star Wars: Shattered Empire’

Star Wars Shattered Empire (01)Since Disney has acquired the rights to the Star Wars brand, they’ve wasted little time producing new comic book titles under the Star Wars name published through Marvel Comics. In the past year Marvel has given us two ongoing titles, including Star Wars and Star Wars: Darth Vader, as well as the mini-series Princess Leia, Kanan: The Last Padawan, and the recently debuted Star Wars: Lando. Now Marvel has a new mini-series on the way, but unlike their other Star Wars titles this one takes place after the events of The Return of the Jedi.

Star Wars: Shattered Empire, written by Greg Rucka (Gotham Central, Lazarus) with art by Marco Checchetto (Punisher, Daredevil), will help bridge the gap between The Return of the Jedi and the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The synopsis reads as follows:

High above the forest moon of Endor, the Rebel Alliance makes their desperate last stand against the might of the Empire. Though they are successful in the destruction of the second Death Star, the Empire is far from beaten. Now, follow Shara Bey, an A-Wing pilot in the Rebel Fleet in the days following the Battle of Endor. Though their super weapon has been destroyed, Shara will discover that just how dangerous and unpredictable a shattered Empire can be!

The first issue for Star Wars: Shattered Empire lands on store shelves and digital platforms this September 2. Check out the unlettered preview for Shattered Empire #1 below and feel free to let us know what you think in the comments.
