Keiynan Lonsdale Cast as Wally West for The CW’s ‘The Flash’

Keiynan Lonsdale

The Flash has found its Wally West in Keiynan Lonsdale. Lonsdale, who was recently introduced to U.S. audiences in 2015’s Insurgent, will portray the DC Comics character who not only became the first Kid Flash, but also took the reins away from Barry Allen and became The Flash from the late 80s into the early 2000s. Since then the character has gone through numerous changes following DC’s New 52 relaunch in 2011, and has since been given a new origin and new appearance.

It’s been hinted at, especially with the inclusion of Teddy Sears as Jay Garrick (a.k.a. the original Flash), that The CW’s The Flash will explore the concept of the multiverse. In the comics, Wally is the nephew of Iris West, but it’s unclear if Wally will be a nephew from an alternate universe or if he just hasn’t been mentioned in The Flash‘s main universe in season one. Whatever the outcome, producer Andrew Kreisberg is very happy with the casting choice, as he stated the following:

Just like when we met Grant [Gustin] for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.

Now sound off, Flash fans. Are you excited to see Wally West, a.k.a. Kid Flash, make his way onto the small screen? Are you happy with the casting decision? Feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

The Flash returns with all-new episodes October 6, 2015 at 8/7c on The CW.
