SDCC 2015: Interviews with the Cast and Producers of ‘The Vampire Diaries’

TVD ComicCon 2015

In May, everyone said goodbye to Nina Dobrev’s character of 6 seasons: Elena Gilbert. So of course, everyone at this year’s ComicCon was interested to know where the show would go in its seventh season. We got the chance to sit down with the cast and producers to ask them questions (and try to get as many spoilers as we could).

TVD‘s writers/producers, Caroline Dries and Julie Plec:

Both ladies gave us quite the spoiler fest, discussing where each character was headed as well as what to expect with the new characters (Heretics). However, it was Dries’ explaining the new time jump that had us curious. Apparently, throughout each episode we’ll be shown teases into the future. For example, perhaps we’ll see a certain couple get together in that glimpse and wonder, “How did that happen?!” I’m already curious what changes are going to occur! (Please say ‘Steroline’ happens). Oh, and in terms of future crossover episodes: they’re definitely in the writers/producer’s minds, they just have to figure out a good time to go about it (both shows have separate story-lines and timelines).

Candice Accola (Caroline Forbes):

The Vampire Barbie herself gave us insight into where Caroline will be in the season to come. She explains that she’ll definitely be trying to distract herself from all the chaos that’s going on with Mystic Falls. Those distractions include: keeping her friendship with Stefan (yes!) and grieving her late mother still. Okay, so that last one isn’t as happy. You will forever be missed, Sheriff Forbes. Speaking of, Accola mentioned that Zach Roerig’s character, Matt Donovan, will be the one that’s filling in in the law department of Mystic Falls. For all you Stefan/Caroline (Steroline) shippers out there (don’t worry, I’m one of you), we can definitely expect to see more scenes from the two; Caroline just doesn’t know what ship she wants with Stefan: friendship or relationship. I vote the latter, Candice.

Kat Graham (Bonnie Bennett):

Bonnie will obviously feel the guilt of causing Elena’s coma in the sixth season finale, Graham says. For you ‘Bamon’ lovers, the pair will still have a strong bond – and for good reason. They both will have a hard time letting go of Elena. Kat also speaks of her favorite scene, which was Bonnie’s attempted suicide scene in “The Day I Tried to Live.”

Michael Malarkey (Enzo):

“Good is subjective,” Michael says of Enzo. Just because he’s no longer harming the Salvatore brothers & co., doesn’t mean he still doesn’t have evil running through his veins at times. Enzo’s big dilemma this season is which side he will choose: Lily’s or Damon’s? What side do you think he’ll choose? Malarkey also let slip that Enzo might have a love interest in one of the future time jumps, and we’ll have to wonder how he got with them in real time. And on the Heretics: “It’s nice to have one big bad, but when you have a few that are offering different elements of it,” which is a really interesting way of thinking about not only the Heretics, but all of The Vampire Diaries’ villains. Every single one of them had a different way of thinking and motivations. Some of them we ended up loving (Klaus, Caroline, and Enzo). Others, not so much (Kai and Markos). Lastly, am I the only one who’s shocked by the fact that he doesn’t have an English accent? First Jordan Gavaris fooled me, now him?!

Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore):

Paul Wesley is always such a treat in any interview/press talk he’s in. Wesley talks about the show’s change from being contrived as a love triangle (Stefan/Elena/Damon), to completely changing its gears. Paul laughed that they might just totally botch the show by doing it. With how long the show has been going and how many story-lines they’ve done, I highly doubt it. “I had to google Heretics by the way. Is that a common thing?” Paul Wesley asked us. You’re not alone, Paul. I honestly didn’t either. And sorry for spoiling you about the upcoming flashback episode in 7.03. Whoops. (now we told you, now you know.)

The Vampire Diaries‘ Seventh Season Premieres on October 8th at 8/7c.
