This Stark is back in the game.
In an interview with the Irish Examiner, Isaac Hempstead Wright confirmed that he will be reprising his role as the young Bran Stark in the upcoming season of the HBO epic drama.
“I can’t say a lot, but I am back this season, and it’s going to get particularly interesting with Bran,” Wright said. “He has some interesting visions.”
The young actor admitted not having watched the fifth season yet due to a busy school schedule. And as to the fate of Bran’s half-brother, Jon Snow, Wright claimed he knew nothing about co-star Kit Harington returning after his shocking death scene at the end of the final episode. “I don’t know [if he will come back]. He’s said he’s not,” said Wright.
Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff previously compared Bran’s absence while developing his warg abilities with the help of the Three-Eyed Raven with Luke Skywalker’s Jedi training in Star Wars. “Like, it would be far less interesting, after The Empire Strikes Back to have an hour-long movie in between Empire and Return of the Jedi where Luke is training,” Benioff told Entertainment Weekly in a past interview. “It’s so much cooler to cut from end of Empire to beginning of Return, where he’s become the Jedi.”
Other than Jon Snow, the only other Starks at play last season were Bran’s sisters, Sansa and Arya. It will be intriguing to see how Bran’s new, magical skills help him on his journey, and what impact his return will make on the larger story.
