Supergirl at SDCC – Superstars in the Making

There was a huge amount of buzz at this year’s San Diego Comic Con – previews of upcoming superhero movie blockbusters, the return of Star Wars – but one of the loudest sources of excitement was Supergirl, the new CBS series which answers the long loud call for a female superhero.

Melissa Benoist (Kara/Supergirl) – The woman of the hour talked about what she loves about Kara and her process of learning about herself in this “coming of age” story. Part of being Supergirl is being a role model and Benoist seems up to the challenge.

Andrew Kreisberg (Showrunner) – the guy with the magic touch: Arrow, Flash, and now Supergirl! He’s bringing his genre hit machine to CBS and is excited for the marketing push a major network will bring to the show. We’re most excited to know that despite being on a different network, Supergirl won’t be standing alone. She’ll be part of the television DC Universe!

David Harewood (Hank Henshaw) – this eventual villain in the Supergirl universe is approaching his role like he’s Hamlet! He wants to find his interpretation of Hank, not follow anyone’s path. We see a great, deeply layered bad guy in our future!

Mehcad Brooks (James Olsen) – “It’s not often the person you’re mentoring can rip your head off and fly away,” Mehcad told us. He’s an absolute charmer, a comic nerd who is delighted to be part of this family. We can’t wait to see him and Kara together!

Sarah Schechter (EP/Writer) – “We hope to deliver an hour of fun and hopefulness,” Sarah explained. She’s also passionate about the importance of female superheroes, as well as exploring the empowerment of Kara coming into her powers. If you weren’t yet convinced to become a Supergirl fan, Sarah’s enthusiasm and sincerity will win you over!

Supergirl has a full season order and will premiere Monday, October 26 at 8:30 PM, just behind a new episode of The Big Bang Theory.
