Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. Pictures has enlisted cinema’s newest Batman – Ben Affleck – and DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns to write a stand-alone Caped Crusader flick, with Affleck also to direct.

Geoff Johns has written Batman in various comic book series, as well as co-developed such small screen hits as Smallville, Arrow, and The Flash.

Things are going so well between the pair – says Deadline – that they could have a draft of the script completed by the end of summer! Affleck’s next film is directing an adaptation of the Dennis Lehane novel Live by Night. No release date is currently set for the Batman film, though one might imagine the slate being cleared for such a big ticket flick!

Affleck’s Batman will make his debut in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, set for release on March 25, 2016, and also appear in Justice League: Part One on November 17, 2017.
