He’s baaaack!
The newest actor to don the red and blue has been unmasked – Tom Holland, a 19-year-old English actor, has been announced as Spiderman by Marvel Studios (along with partner Sony) as the latest in a growing line of movie web-slingers.
Many names have been bandied about but we should have known that Marvel would have gone a) mostly unknown and b) British – that is their regular hunting ground!
Spidey is being recast/rebooted this time because this time he’s coming to the cinematic universe where Iron Man, Captain America, and the rest of the Avengers are currently dominating the box office at every opportunity. Marvel has gotten their hands on Spider-man and one hopes they’re going to use him to his fullest advantage.
Maybe we can skip having Uncle Ben die this time? Please?
Holland is a child actor, not well-known in the US. He starred in films like The Impossible and the TV mini-series Wolf Hall. Expect him to swing into theaters in a small role in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, and he’ll get his own stand alone Spidey film in July 2017.
