One of television’s unique characters has been given the ax! NBC announced today that they’ve cancelled Hannibal after three seasons. TVInsider reported executive producer Bryan Fuller said, “Hannibal is finishing his last course at NBC’s table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again. And personally, I look forward to my next meal with NBC.”
Does this mean the creepy fan favorite will find a home elsewhere, like Netflix or Hulu or perhaps cable, where it would probably fare much better? Unfortunately, good reviews and a devoted fan base couldn’t establish the ratings necessary to keep the thriller going on network television. The remaining episodes will air Thursdays this summer at 10pm EST.
Fuller – who wasn’t contracted to run Hannibal past the third season – has already landed at Starz with the television adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods.
