Neil Gaiman’s blockbuster American Gods will be coming to Starz as a new series!

Exciting news from Starz today: they’ve given the greenlight to a series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s acclaimed contemporary fantasy novel American Gods. Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, Heroes) and Michael Green (The River, Kings, Heroes), will pen and serve as showrunners for the series, with Gaiman as executive producer. Production will begin after show runners cast the lead role of “Shadow Moon.”

The 2001 novel has been translated into over 30 languages and earned numerous awards including the Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker Awards for Best Novel. The plot of American Gods rests upon a war brewing between the traditional gods of mythology and a host of new gods, reflecting a modern worship of money, technology, media, celebrity, and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon – and the focus of the intense search for a lead actor – is an ex-con bodyguard who travels the country with Mr. Wednesday, an older god who needs to gather his fellow deities for the upcoming battle.

Starz is inviting fans to tweet @AmericanGodsSTZ and @STARZ_Channel using the hashtag #CastingShadow to give their input on who should play the role of “Shadow Moon.”
