Since Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was first announced, numerous questions have been raised by fans and critics alike. One question that is constantly being asked is: why are these two heroes fighting? Although inspired by Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns, a story where Batman and Superman did fight, in TDKR the two already had a long history with each other and very specific circumstances led to their battle. In Dawn of Justice, the two will meet for the first time and go right into the big fight. Now we know why, as Warner Bros. has released the official synopsis for the upcoming film. Check it out:

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.

Well there you have it. It seems Batman will initiate the fight due to his mistrust of the super-powered being. As for what the “greater danger” is the synopsis refers to, it’s probably safe to assume that Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor will have something to do with it. It’s likely Batman and Superman will have to put aside their differences near the finale of the movie and take on whatever mankind’s greater danger is.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice released in theaters March 25, 2016. In the meantime check out some detailed images of the Batmobile and costumes of the the film taken at this year’s Licensing Expo in Las Vegas, thanks to Collider.
