Deadline and TVLine are reporting that the biggest obstacle to an eighth season of Castle has been overcome, in that series star Nathan Fillion has signed on to return. A formal renewal announcement hasn’t yet come from ABC, but with Fillion signed on, this seems much more likely. Co-star Stana Katic, on the other hand, has yet to renew her contract.

In addition to this news, ABC has also stated that showrunner David Amann is stepping down and exiting the show, while show creator/executive producer Andrew Marlowe’s future with the show is also uncertain.
