WonderCon ’15: New Trailer & Interviews with the Cast of ‘The Flash’

The Flash - New Key Art

Plenty of new and amazing developments have arisen in this first season of The Flash, and with only six episodes left it sounds like plenty of more twists and turns are in store for the Scarlet Speedster. This past weekend at WonderCon 2015 we had the pleasure of sitting with cast members Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, and Candice Patton, who play the characters Cisco Ramon, Caitlin Snow, and Iris West respectively, as well as executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. While they may have remained tight-lipped on certain aspects of the series, the cast and crew did dish out some neat facts and hints on what’s to come in the next six episodes.

Everyone who enjoyed Mark Hamill’s recent reprisal as James Jesse, a.k.a. The Trickster, should be happy to hear there is a possibility of him returning to the show. In addition to sharing his excitement for having Mark Hamill on the series, Kreisberg went into the upcoming episode “All-Star Team-Up”, which will guest star Robbie Amell as Firestorm, as well as Arrow‘s Stephen Amell, Colton Haynes, and Brandon Routh. Kreisberg promises that due to the higher budget The Flash has in comparison to Arrow, we’ll get to see more “full on Atom action” in “All-Star Team Up”. Kreisberg also states that he’s really looking forward to episode 20, “The Trap”, as it will be more emotionally driven rather than special effects driven.

Candice Patton was able to share her thoughts on Iris West’s current state on the show. Out of all the main characters on the series, Iris is the only one who doesn’t know that Barry is The Flash. This isolation will most likely lead to her feeling frustrated and devastated with the men in her life when she does finally find out, according to Patton. Iris West may be getting closer to finding out the truth, as Patton states that the character will continue her investigation of Dr. Harrison Wells and S.T.A.R. Labs, and that “she’ll find her way into S.T.A.R. Labs in doing so.”

Patton also considers the implications of what may happen to Iris’ relationship with Barry if he does actually go back in time and save his mother from being killed. The brother/sister dynamic of their relationship is only there because Barry went to live with the Wests after his mother died. This could all change.

Danielle Panabaker, who plays Caitlin Snow, dropped some very interesting details on what’s to come in the series. Caitlin and Ronnie will soon have a “joyful” reunion according to Panabaker, but this reunion will not be without its hardships. Panabaker also confirms that episode 19, entitled “Who Is Harrison Wells?”, will be a “great” episode for Caitlin specifically, and episode 22, “Rogue Air” will be “huge”.

Since it was first announced that Danielle Panabaker would be cast as Caitlin Snow, many comic book fans have been wondering whether or not The Flash would develop Snow into the character she is in the comics. In the comics Caitlin Snow becomes the villainous character Killer Frost. While Panabaker didn’t make reference to Killer Frost specifically, when asked if Snow would go through any significant changes as she does in the comics Panabaker responded, “sooner than you think”.

After briefly discussing the upcoming film he, Jesse L. Martin, and Rick Cosnett are working on entitled, The Letter Carrier, which will begin filming April 16th, Carlos Valdes discussed working with Doug Jones on the upcoming episodes “Who Is Harrison Wells?” and “Rogue Air”. Jones, who has played several strange characters in his career including Fauno in Pan’s Labyrinth and Abe Sapien in the Hellboy films, will play the villain Deathbolt. Valdes also goes into the dynamic between Cisco and Arrow‘s Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), stating that as they are both total science geeks they will hit it off. We might even see a “bromance” develope between the two, according to Valdes.

While not specifically referred to in the video below it was also revealed at WonderCon that Cisco will give Arrow‘s Black Canary (Katie Cassidy) the ability she has had in the comics, which is to put out a high-powered sonic scream referred to as the “Canary Cry”. Valdes confirms that “fans are really going to enjoy” seeing the two meet.

Valdes also dropped a pretty big scoop regarding episode 20, “The Trap”, which Kreisberg mentioned in his interview. Valdes claims that in “The Trap” The Flash will revisit the timeline that was lost in the episode “Out of Time”.

In addition to being able to meet with the cast and crew of The Flash, WonderCon 2015 also gave fans a brand new, spoilerific trailer teasing the next couple of episodes. In the trailer we see an imprisoned Harrison Wells, Eddie Thawne getting beat down by The Flash, Cisco, Caitlin, and Barry uncovering Wells’ secret futuristic room, and some brief glimpses of The Atom in action. Watch the trailer below at your own risk.. The Flash returns with all-new episodes April 14 on The CW.
