IDW Publishing and DC Comics have announced an upcoming crossover between two of their respective science fiction properties: Star Trek and Green Lantern.

The upcoming six-issue mini-series entitled Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War, announced at WonderCon Saturday, April 4, will be written by Mike Johnson. Johnson is known for his work on IDW’s current ongoing Star Trek title, as well as several titles from DC including Earth 2: World’s End and Supergirl. The mini-series will be drawn by Angel Hernández (Infinite Crisis: Fight for the Multiverse) and will feature covers from Gabriel Rodriguez, Francesco Francavilla, Garry Brown, Elsa Charretier, Declan Shalvey, and Marc Laming.

The plot of the upcoming mini-series, which will feature the crew from the current J.J. Abrams-produced film series, is described as follows:

Set in Star Trek’s 23rd Century, the balance of the universe will be tested when the Green Lantern Corps’ Power Rings come into the possession of certain Star Trek characters while a dark and powerful evil looms around every corner. Only the combined power of the Green Lantern Corps and the Federation stand any chance of stopping those who worship evil’s might.

According to IDW President and COO Greg Goldstein, it’s been a desire to bring these two universes together for a while now as he stated, “Star Trek and Green Lantern both share so many of the same science-fiction adventure themes and ideals, that a galaxy-spanning crossover like this is simply… logical.”

Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War is set to release in comic book stores and digital platforms July 2015.
