Broadchurch Season Two Premieres Tonight

The Second Season of Broadchurch premieres tonight on BBC America at 10pm EST/PST. Its finale raked in over ten million viewers and was the highest rated drama of 2013, shocking fans worldwide with the ending as the lives of all those in Sandbrook were revealed to never be the same.

This season picks up a few months from where show creator Chris Chibnall left us, revealing Danny Latimer’s murderer to be none other than Joe Miller, Detective Miller’s husband. Chibnall warns fans, “series two is a different journey it has a different shape and energy, a different rhythm. It’s a new story, and there’s a different engine under the bonnet this year.”

Not much is known about where Broadchurch will start other than the promise that time has passed. In fact the secrecy surrounding the production of Broadchurch’s second series looms over the cast. Not even they were allowed to see the first full episode until it debuted in the UK, watching it live on their television just like their hordes of fans. Regarding the high secrecy surrounding this series executive producer Jane Featherstone states, “it was our job to make sure that the second series offers something equally compelling and emotional, but we also felt it was important that it was in some ways unexpected and surprising.”

One thing that is certain is returning stars. Joining David Tennant’s reprise of Alec Hardy is Olivia Coleman as Detective Ellie Miller, who no doubt will be struggling to go on with life as her family has been ripped apart by the action of her husband. Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan also return as Beth and Mark LaitmerLaitmer, trying to redefine their life with a murdered son and another child on the way. Returning to Sandbrook as well is Arthur Darvill, Carolyn Pickels, and other familiar faces. New additions to this season include Charlotte Rampling, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, James D’Arcy, Eve Myles, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge although their characters are still under much secrecy to avoid giving up much of where this series of Broadchurch will go.
