‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Finds Its Nightcrawler

Kodi Smit-McPhee / Nightcrawler

Kodi Smit-McPhee is set to play Kurt Wagner, a.k.a. Nightcrawler, in Bryan Singer’s upcoming installment in the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse. The character was last portrayed by Alan Cumming in Singer’s 2003 sequel, X2: X-Men United. Smit-McPhee has been chosen to play a younger incarnation of the character, as Apocalypse is said to take place in the 1980s.

Since 2006 Smit-McPhee has held numerous roles in several projects, including lead roles in The Road, Let Me In, and ParaNorman. He also held a small role in last year’s blockbuster hit, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.

Smit-McPhee will join other series newcomers Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, and Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner as Jean Grey. Additionally, Jennifer Lawrence, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and Rose Byrne are set to reprise their roles as Mystique, Professor X, Magneto, and Moira MacTaggert, respectively.
