Marvel sure knows how to cast ’em! David Tennant, former star of Doctor Who and Broadchurch, has been cast in Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series, A.K.A. Jessica Jones. He will star opposite Krysten Ritter and Mike Colter as the series’ main antagonist, Zebediah Killgrave.

In response to this latest casting decision, A.K.A. Jessica Jones executive producer and showrunner Melissa Rosenberg stated the following:

I’m so honored and excited by the prospect of David inhabiting this multifaceted character. He can deliver the most heart-wrenching moment to the driest of lines, and all points in between. He’ll make Kilgrave a truly original villain.

In the comics, Zebediah Killgrave goes by the moniker The Purple Man. He was first introduced in 1964 in Daredevil #4 and has crossed paths with Jessica Jones in the Brian Michael Bendis written series, Alias. He has been known to have the ability to influence the actions and decisions of people through chemical pheromones he produces. He is also purple.

How Killgrave will fit into A.K.A. Jessica Jones has not yet been revealed, and Marvel.com‘s alternate spelling of the character’s name (Kilgrave) may suggest some slight alterations to the character. Marvel simply states “Kilgrave’s reappearance will send shockwaves through the former super hero’s world.”
