According to Latino Review, Viola Davis, star of ABC’s How to Get Away with Murder, has been cast as Amanda Waller in Warner Bros.’ upcoming DC film, Suicide Squad. Davis will join Jared Leto, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Tom Hardy, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevinge in the upcoming film directed by David Ayer (Fury).

In the comics, Waller is the director of A.R.G.U.S. and organizer of Task Force X, a.k.a. the Suicide Squad a team of convicts forced to go on suicide missions for the government in exchange for amnesty. The character has been portrayed by numerous actors in the past, including Pam Grier on long-lived TV series Smallville, Angela Bassett in the critically panned Green Lantern, and most recently by Cynthia Addai-Robinson on The CW’s Arrow. The casting of Viola Davis would further cement the fact that Warner Bros’ DC cinematic universe is indeed separate from their television universe.

Viola Davis would be perfect for this role and this could be one of Warner Bros.’ best casting decisions yet. Davis’ previous credits prove she has the acting chops to pull off the commanding, calculating persona of Amanda Waller. Davis was even recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her critically acclaimed portrayal of Annalise Keating on How to Get Away with Murder.

What do you think about this casting decision? Do you think Viola Davis is a good choice for the role of Amanda Waller? Feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Suicide Squad is set to release in theaters August 6, 2016. Filming beings April 2015 in Toronto, Canada.
