On Sunday December 14, at 7 pm EST, ABC will be airing a one-hour special on Disney’s various Broadway productions, Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years. The event will be hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson and will take viewers through all eight productions: Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, AIDA, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid, Mary Poppins, Newsies, and Aladdin.
Musical performances by Sir Elton John, Glee‘s Darren Criss, Mary Poppins‘ Ashley Brown, and Aladdin‘s Adam Jacobs will be featured on the special, as well as anecdotes from Whoopi Goldberg, Rosie O’Donnell, and Toni Braxton.
The special will also highlight the high stakes of performing on Broadway. Viewers will be taken backstage during an actual performance of Aladdin, will get to watch a special Lion King rehearsal, and will see a glimpse of being on the road with the North American Newsies tour.
