It was recently reported within the last few months that producer David S. Goyer (Constantine, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) was working on a series focusing on Superman’s home planet of Krypton. The project may now become a reality, as DC Entertainment and Warner Horizon Television are developing Krypton for Syfy. Kryton will be an hour-long drama focusing on Superman’s grandfather. It will be executive produced by Goyer and Ian Goldberg (Once Upon A Time), with Goldberg serving as writer for the pilot. The series is described as follows.
Years before the Superman legend we know, the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This series follows The Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.
Krypton joins a a growing list of DC television series currently under development, including Supergirl on CBS and Titans on TNT. Whether Krypton will exist within the same universe as those shows, or DC’s other properties currently airing such as Arrow, The Flash, Gotham, and Constantine, is unconfirmed. The series will most likely remain its own thing with no connection to other shows or DC’s cinematic universe.
