Whether he liked it or not, Carver’s big heart problem came out in the open. With his condition disclosed and Ellie as well as the sergeant declaring him unfit for duty he quickly realized that his time was running short. No one was surprised by Carver’s screw my health attitude as he checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice and could care less about his impending need for surgery. His desperation to solve the case finds Carver in situations he never expected as he reaches out to the reluctant psychic for any information that could lead to the capture of Danny’s killer. His final moments also force Carver into looking at his life, or more importantly his failure to the families in Rosemont as Owen backs him into a corner with the breadcrumbs that Renee threw him. As Carver reveals the Rosemont case was compromised by his ex-wife and her affair he shows that he actually does have a heart when the main reason he took the fall was for the protection of his daughter.

With the boss sick and on a self-destructive route Ellie has to take hold of the case. She changes without even realizing it, using Susan’s dog by threating his indirect death and appealing for the love Susan had for her daughters to get information from her. Her plan works and Susan admits that not only did she see someone lay Danny’s body on the beach but that it was her own son, Vince, who she saw.

Vince’s behavior doesn’t exactly scream innocent, secretly taking Danny out hunting, working on skateboards for the neighborhood kids, stealing Susan’s dog and getting Danny’s name tattooed on his arm. Adding to this is that Ellie’s own sister saw the Solano plumbing van in the woods the night that Danny was murdered. His threat to Susan only compounds the possibility of his dark actions as he threatens to kill her dog grabbing her right in front of Ellie who just practically stands by and allows it to happen.

Too bad Ellie’s blindness extends to her family as well. She is so busy with work that she didn’t even notice Tom and Danny growing apart or the fact that her son is struggling. It’s obvious that Tom is hiding something with last week’s attempt at destroying his computer followed by this week’s threat to the Reverend. Tom doesn’t even care that Coates is a man of God or an adult, threatening to tell the cops that Paul hit Danny if he gives the computer over to the police. Poor Paul, it’s not like he doesn’t already have enough to worry about like the hopes that Beth’s marriage will fall apart so he can swoop in and help her out.

He was too busy playing grabby hands with Beth and trying to sniff her hair when all she wants is help. Beth is understandably conflicted about bringing a new child into the world when she failed at protecting her last one, especially as she and Mark continue to fight over his affair with Gemma and her friendship with Paul. Hopefully, the two finally made a turning point as Mark confronts her about seeing Beth in Coates’ apartment during the middle of the day and she assures him that she could care less about Paul because she only loves Mark. In doing this Beth makes the decision to fight for her marriage and move towards the future unknowing that Danny’s murder is about to be brought to justice.
