Star Wars: The Force Awakens Teaser

Finally, our first look at J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens! The seventh Star Wars film stars John Boyega and Daisy Ridley (who we get quick glimspes of in the teaser), with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford, as well as Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, and Andy Sirkus (among others).

No mega surprises for anyone who has been following the making of SW7, although quite a few Youtube commenters seem shocked to see John Boyega in the first seconds of the teaser, even though he was clearly cast as a lead and there was never any secret that he’s black (seems most people assumed from the beginning that Boyega would naturally have a small role, including people who thought he should be the star, but were reluctant to get their hopes up). Boyega’s character is seen in a Storm Trooper uniform. I’m personally hoping he’s an AWOL Storm Trooper who becomes a Jedi under Luke. Storm Troopers were rarely humanized in the originals, even though Luke Skywalker himself was months away from training to be one when everything hit the fan in A New Hope. And no, internet, Storm Troopers are not Clone Troopers. They’re mostly recruits and therefore don’t have to look like Jango Fett.

The other “controversy” seems to be a badass-looking cross-shaped Sith lightsaber. Because new things are hard, I guess. Also a cool new R2 droid, X-wing fighters, and the Millennium Falcon. Coming in December 2015.
