For the past several weeks rumors have been circulating that Warner Bros. was looking for a female director to helm their upcoming Wonder Woman project, leaning heavily towards Michelle MacLaren. Now it’s been officially confirmed that MacLaren has signed a deal to both develop and direct the upcoming film.

While MacLaren has yet to direct a feature-length theatrical film, her previous television credits demonstrate how much of a talent she truly is. MacLaren has directed numerous episodes of Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Breaking Bad, and several others projects since the early 2000s. She has also served as an executive producer for Breaking Bad and X-Files.

Wonder Woman will star Gal Gadot, who will make her first appearance as the character in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will be produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder, and Deborah Snyder.

Wonder Woman is scheduled to release in theaters 2017, sharing the summer with Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Thor: Ragnarok.
