With the overwhelming amount of success and praise received for Guardians of the Galaxy and the film’s surprise cameo after the credits, it’s no wonder Marvel would bring Howard the Duck back into the limelight.
The ongoing title, appropriately named Howard the Duck, will be helmed by writer/artists Chip Zdarsky (Sex Criminals) and Joe Quinones (Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell)
In the upcoming title, Howard the Duck, an alien from another planet, will become a private investigator for the Marvel Universe. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zdarsky and Quinones explain that they aim to embrace the comedy of the character, originally created by Steve Gerber in 1973, in order to provide a fun and humorous title for Marvel readers. Zdarsky states:
. . . my ultimate goal is to make [Howard the Duck] funny. Marvel has taken chances on funny books and injecting humor into superhero titles, so I want to make sure this is worth some chuckles here and there.
Quinones also adds that there will be “some fun sci-fi stuff” throughout the series and for fans to expect “a lot of visual gags”.
Howard the Duck #1 is set to hit store shelves and digital platforms March 4, 2015. Do you plan on giving this a read? I know I will. Feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments.
