Marvel Comics Reveals ‘Secret Wars: Battleworld’

In 1984 Marvel Comics published Marvel Super Heroes: Secret Wars, a 12-issue limited series which pitted Marvel’s characters against each other against their will. The arena they fought in was named Battleworld, and this war was all arranged by the villain known as The Beyonder. Now Marvel has a new Secret Wars on their hands, originally teased at New York Comic Con 2014, and they have revealed an all-new Battleworld in a brand new trailer with the tagline, “In May 2015, everything ends. The Secret Wars commence!”

It all makes sense now (sort of). All of the teaser posters Marvel has unveiled in recent weeks have all been connected to this one event. The trailer illustrates that the each area in Battleworld will contain characters from different stories, and we can safely assume they will all face off against each other as implied by some amazing art from series cover artist Alex Ross. These stories, complied from new and old Marvel events, include: Civil War, Age of Ultron vs. Marvel Zombies, Years of Future Past, Planet Hulk, Armor Wars, House of M, Infinity Gauntlet, Old Man Logan, Inhumans: Attilan Rising, Age of Apocalypse, Future Imperfect, Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows, Avengers vs. X-Men, X-Men ’92, and one story which implies “The End” of Marvel’s Ultimate universe.

Marvel’s all-new Secret Wars will be written by Jonathan Hickman, who currently writes Marvel’s Avengers title. It will be drawn by Esad Ribic, who also works on Avengers, as well as Thor: God of Thunder (before the current reboot) and others. As stated before, legendary artist Alex Ross will handle the covers for the series.

Now sound off, Marvel readers. Does this sound like something you’d be interested in picking up Summer of 2015? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
