Big News Everyone! Marvel Announces Film Titles Through 2019

Marvel made a big announcement today, the sort of thing we had expected to hear at San Diego Comic-Con. Finally, Marvel has laid out their plans for Phase Three!

They dropped a big news-bomb on us this afternoon, with so many different things to talk about it’s hard to pick where to start. Marvel has been planning out release dates for several untitled films this past year, with plenty of fan speculation about which ones they could possibly be. Now, we have the titles for all of Marvel’s mystery films, many of which have been rumored for a while. Let’s take this year by year, as Marvel has things in motion through 2019.

2016

Phase Three will kick off in 2015 with Ant-Man, but the next movie after that will be the much anticipated Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016. Yes, that’s right, the rumors are true and the third Cap film will explore the famous Civil War storyline of the comic books, where Captain America and Iron Man fight over the Superhero Registration Act. At first, Marvel teased that the title would be Serpent Society, but then Marvel President Kevin Feige took it back and revealed the real name.

Chris Evans and Robert Downey, Jr. were both at the event, raising their fists when they met at center stage like they were already about to fight over superhero rights. Another actor joined them on stage, one who will be playing a pivotal role in the film, but more on that later.

The next movie on Marvel’s list for 2016 is Doctor Strange, which will be released on November 4 (not on the rumored date of July 8). Other than announcing what we already knew or suspected, that the film is in fact being made and Scott Derrickson will be directing, no other news was revealed. Yesterday, the Internet exploded with rumors that Benedict Cumberbatch may be in the running for the role, but no possible cast members were even mentioned. Kevin Feige was noted to say that if something wasn’t announced during this event, then it was either not true or it was still being worked out. This means a deal might not be finalized for Cumberbatch to take on the role, or the entire thing was fabricated. We’ll have to wait and see on that one.
