Marvel’s critically acclaimed Hawkeye title will soon lose its current creative team. Writer Matt Fraction (Sex Criminals) and artist David Aja (Daredevil) are currently finishing up their run on the Eisner award winning title. The news of who would take over for the team was announced during New York Comic Con 2014 at Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonzo’s “Axel-In Charge” Panel

Writer Jeff Lemire, who has mostly worked with DC on recent titles such as Animal Man, Justice League United, and Green Arrow, will take over for Fraction alongside Ramón Pérez (Amazing Spider-Man, Wolverine and the X-Men) who is taking over on art duties. Lemire and Pérez’s run begins March 2015, as Marvel will relaunch Hawkeye with a new #1 issue.

In an interview with Comic Book Resources, Jeff Lemire assures fans that even though he and Pérez will bring their own “sensibilities” to the title, they won’t negate the foundation Fraction and Aja have established. Additionally, those worried that Lemire might retread the same ground he covered with the DC archer Green Arrow, Lemire states:

What I did with Green Arrow, which I’m pretty proud of, is totally different from [Hawkeye] in terms of tone and approach. And fundamentally, they are extremely different characters. They’re almost polar opposites.

Being a fan of both Lemire’s work and Fraction’s run on Hawkeye, I’m certain Lemire will be a suitable replacement for Fraction. Fraction and Aja’s Hawkeye run stands out for being unique in tone and art style and I feel Lemire and Pérez will be able to keep that trend going. Until then, the current Hawkeye run has a few more issues left before it concludes. I’d suggest giving them a read if you haven’t done so already.
