NYCC 2014: DC Comics Unveils Three New Digital-First Titles

Sunday, October 12, 2014 at New York Comic Con, DC Entertainment held their “DC Digital: Download This!” panel. During the panel, which focused on DC’s digital comics side, the company announced three new digital-first titles debuting within the coming months later this year. The titles announced were Mortal Kombat X, Fables: The Wolf Among Us, and Wonder Woman ’77.

Mortal Kombat X, written by former DC creative executive Shawn Kittelsen with art by Dexter Soy (Army of Two) and covers by Ivan Reis (Justice League), serves as a tie-in prequel to the upcoming video game from NeatherRealm Studios. It will debut on digital platforms January 2015.

Fables: The Wolf Among Us marks the first time DC Entertainment has had a digital-first Vertigo title. Fables: The Wolf Among Us will be based on the popular video game series from Telltale Games, The Wolf Among Us (which in turn is inspired by the original Fables comics from Vertigo). The series will be written by Matthew Sturges and Dave Justus (House of Mystery) with art by Steve Sadowski (Fairest), Travis Moore (JSA All-Stars), and Shawn McManus (Sandman). Covers will be penciled by Chrissie Zullo (Cinderella: Fables Are Forever). Fables: The Wolf Among Us launches this December 2014 and will be collected in print in 2015.

Wonder Woman ’77, based on the hit 1970s television series starring Lynda Carter, will also launch this December with its print counterparts hitting store shelves 2015. Marc Andreyko (Manhunter, Batwoman) will take on writing duties for Wonder Woman ’77 and Nicola Scott (Teen Titans, Earth 2) will take on the covers for the series. Interior artists have not yet been announced.

Mortal Kombat X, Fables: The Wolf Among Us, and Wonder Woman ’77 will now join a solid line-up of digital-first titles from DC Entertainment which include Injustice: Gods Among Us, Arrow: Season 2.5, The Flash: Season Zero, Batman ’66, Sensation Comics featuring Wonder Woman, and much more.
