Deadpool is one of Marvel’s most beloved and quirky characters. He breaks the fourth wall constantly and has a sense of humor as dark as his morality. When Deadpool appeared, played by Ryan Reynolds, in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, fans were excited – until they saw the bizarre interpretation of the character that involved sewing shut the mouth of a man best known for his witty dialogue. That movie was panned and ultimately ignored in later X-Men films, but unfortunately its failure put the hoped for Deadpool spinoff on the shelf. For years, though, there have been rumors that a Deadpool movie was still in the works, languishing somewhere in production hell. A brief video of test footage was even leaked online earlier this year, and fans loved what they saw. Yet still, there was no news on the film’s fate. Until now.
A Deadpool movie is finally happening! For real! It’s set to be released on February 12, 2016, a couple months before X-Men: Apocalypse. Ryan Reynolds has not signed on yet but he is expected to. Tim Miller will direct. That’s all we know so far, but for many fans it’s enough.
