Variety has confirmed that James D’Arcy (Let’s Be Cops, Cloud Atlas) will join the cast of ABC’s Agent Carter as the butler of Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) and ally to Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). Further reports from various sources, including ComicBook.com, confirm that D’Arcy will specifically play the butler Edwin Jarvis. According to ComicBook.com, executive producer Steve McFeely verified during Comic-Con International 2014 that Edwin Jarvis would make his way onto Agent Carter.

The character of Jarvis, who first appeared in 1964’s Tales of Suspense #59, has been heavily featured in Marvel’s Iron Man comics as the butler to Tony Stark and his father’s butler before him. Since Marvel first kicked off their cinematic universe in 2008 with Iron Man, the role of Jarvis was assumed by the voice of Paul Bettany, since Jarvis, or J.A.R.V.I.S., was written as Tony Stark’s household artificial intelligence. The inclusion of Edwin Jarvis in Agent Carter implies that there was a Jarvis before J.A.R.V.I.S. and Tony Stark may have based his A.I. on him. Maybe we’ll even see a young Tony Stark interact with James D’Arcy’s Jarvis in future episodes of the series.

While no specific release date has been confirmed, Agent Carter is set to release in January of 2015 on ABC when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. takes its mid-season break. Will you be watching? What do you think of James D’Arcy joining the cast? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
