Marvel Comics Celebrates 100 Issues of Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel #10

Captain Marvel #10

Since former Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers, took up the mantle of Captain Marvel in 2012, her solo series written by Kelly Sue Deconnick has been a fan favorite amongst Marvel Comics readers. Soon to be 10 issues into its second volume, Marvel has decided to celebrate 100 issues of Carol Danvers. I know what you’re thinking. That sounds about 90 issues too early. Well, since Carol Danvers first headlined her own title as Ms. Marvel in 1977, the character has been featured in 100 of her own solo issues since.

What better way to celebrate 100 issues than to release an over-sized anniversary issue of Captain Marvel #10. The issue, priced at $4.99, is set to be released digitally and in print this December 2014. It will be written by series writer Kelly Sue Deconnick with art by David Lopez, Marcio Takara, and more. The main cover, penciled by Lopez, serves as an homage to 1977’s Ms. Marvel #1. No other variant covers have bee announced, but I’m sure there will be plenty revealed as the release date draws near.
