Rila Fukushima in The Wolverine
It was previously announced that Devon Aoki (Sin City) would play the role of Tatsu Yamashiro, a.k.a. Katana, in the upcoming third season of Arrow. This is no longer the case as Rila Fukushima has now been cast in the role. Aoki is said to have pulled out of the series due to scheduling conflicts.
Beginning her career as a model in Japan, Rila Fukushima’s first credited acting role was in 2010 in the short film, Karma: A Very Twisted Love Story. Most comic book movie fans will remember her starring alongside Hugh Jackman as Yukio in the 2013 X-Men installment, The Wolverine.
So, Arrow heads, what do you think about this latest casting decision? Personally, I’m delighted we’re getting a live-action version of Katana on Arrow, a character I find pretty fun to read on the page. I genuinely enjoyed Fukushima’s performance as Wolverine’s sword-wielding “bodyguard” in The Wolverine. I believe she’ll do a satisfying job as Katana.
