ABC Developing Derrick Storm Drama Based on ‘Castle’ Novels

Some interesting and highly meta news coming from ABC: according to Entertainment Weekly, the network is in the early stages of developing a drama based on the fictional novels written by a fictional character from one of their own other shows. At this point, the drama is entitled Derrick Storm, after the CIA protagonist of the hit spy novel series Richard Castle wrote in the Castle universe, before he met and partnered with Detective Kate Beckett. Several of these novels have been published by Hyperion Books in real life, including A Brewing Storm, A Raging Storm, and A Bloody Storm.

This new procedural is being written by Missing’s Greg Poirier, who will also executive produce with Castle’s Andrew Marlowe and Terri Miller.

I for one would be intrigued to see this show become a reality. I generally like spy shows. Plus, maybe Beckett & Castle could even watch it on the show sometime, in a delightfully weird almost-crossover that would no doubt stroke Castle’s already healthy ego. What about you? Would you be interested in seeing Derrick Storm come to life?
