Clancy Brown (Sleepy Hollow) has been cast as General Wade Eiling, a.k.a. The General, in The CW’s The Flash. The General will make his debut in the series’ fifth episode, as he attempts to hunt down Bette San Souci/Plastique (Kelly Frye) with the hopes of weaponizing her explosive abilities.

General Eiling, created by Cary Bates and Pat Broderick, made his first comic book appearance in 1987’s Captain Atom #1. After being diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor, The General transfers his consciousness into the body of The Shaggy Man, a monstrous DC villain introduced in 1966. In addition to appearing as a foe of Captain Atom and the Justice League of America, The General has also appeared on television in both Justice League Unlimited, voiced by J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man Trilogy), and in Young Justice, voiced by Jeff Bennett (The Legend of Korra).

While Clancy Brown has done numerous live-action roles, including the role of Sheriff Corbin in FOX’s Sleepy Hollow, he is probably best known for his voice acting. He’s no stranger to DC Comics properties, having voiced Lex Luthor in the animated series Superman, Justice League, and The Batman, the animated movie Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, and even the video games Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and the upcoming Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham.

Other voice roles include Yakone in The Legend of Korra, Rahzar in Nickelodeon’s current Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, Red Hulk in Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., and Mr. Krabs in Spongebob Squarepants, just to name a few. He even voiced the villain Parallax in Warner Bros.’ critically-panned Green Lantern.

The Flash premieres Tuesday, October 7, 2014 on The CW. What do you think of this latest casting update? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
