Universal Acquires Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles

Interview with the Vampire book coverWhile Anne Rice is expanding the universe of her popular Vampire Chronicles with a new book due out this fall about Lestat, the film versions of that series may be getting revamped. Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment has acquired the film rights to the series and plans to use them.

The deal gives them the rights to all books in the series, all those published and all those ever to be published in the future. The deal also includes the rights to the screenplay Rice’s son Christopher wrote for The Tale of the Body Thief, which has been in development hell for ages.

Brian Grazer, Alex Kurtzman, and Roberto Orci are reportedly signed on as producers. It is believed that they may start by remaking Interview with the Vampire, which is probably the only film version of an Anne Rice book that has done well and probably doesn’t need a remake (but you know Hollywood and their remakes).

So what do you think? Are you looking forward to more Anne Rice books turned into movies? Which ones do you want to see on screen (and which ones do you not)? Sound off in the comments!
