Doctor Who‘s 8th series, the first to feature 12th Doctor Peter Capaldi, premieres internationally on August 23, and, for American fans, it comes with the biggest fanfare ever for a DW season premiere this side of the Atlantic. BBC America plans Doctor Who Takeover Week starting August 18 with a Doctor Who marathon, but the event will transcend TV, including theatrical midnight showings of Doctor Who Season Premiere: Deep Breath in 12 US cities (to be announced August 5) on August 23, and evening screenings in 550 theaters on Monday, August 25 (for more info, see FathomEvents.com).
In addition to the marathon, BBC America will premiere new specials, including Doctor Who: The Ultimate Companion on Saturday, August 16 at 9 p.m. ET and The Real History of Science Fiction: Time at 10 p.m. ET, and Doctor Who: The Ultimate Time Lord on Monday, August 18, 10 p.m. ET.
On Premiere Day, Chris Harwick (The Nerdist, The Talking Dead) will host Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show at 7:30 p.m. ET and Doctor Who: After Who Live at 11 p.m. ET following the premiere of “Intruders.”
And if you want to get even more involved, you can help choose the episodes that will air on Sunday August 24 for the “Make Your Own Sunday” DW marathon — you can vote for your favorites starting August 6 on BBCAmerica.com.
