Fantastic Four Reboot Will Be Based on Comics

Last week the plot of the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot was under sudden scrutiny despite an official synopsis not having been released. The reason? Actress Kate Mara, who will play Sue Storm, was quoted in a translation of Esquire Latin America saying that the movie wouldn’t be based on “any history of anything already published.” This caused quite the stir among fans, but it turns out all this was a misunderstanding due to a bad translation.

Representatives of Mara told EW that she hadn’t said the plot wouldn’t be based on the comics. Instead, she’d meant that “the film is not based on one comic, but rather drawn from the entire canon.” So it looks like we jumped the gun with some information that was incorrect, but it’s interesting how fans were so quick to jump on this mistranslation. With a reboot like this, everyone is either invested in it succeeding to show that it can, or they’re hoping it will fail in some justified sense of schadenfreude. Any bit of news that will support either side gets pushed into the spotlight, no matter how large or small. It’s not the first time, and it won’t be the last, but for now Fantastic Four fans can rest easy knowing the new movie won’t completely turn its back on canon.

Fantastic Four will be released June 19, 2015. What do you think the plot will be? Let us know in the comments!
