Supernatural Plans for a Musical-ish 200th Episode

Supernatural Season 8 Title Banner

It’s all I’ve ever dreamed of. Supernatural has some very special plans for its upcoming 200th episode, and it’s something that fans have been hoping to see for years.

Will it look anything like this?

Showrunner Jeremy Carver has revealed to EOnline that for the 200th episode, which will be titled “Fan Fiction,” they will be boldly going where they have never gone before: a musical episode. Now, Carver’s exact words were “musical-ish,” which suggests not a full-on musical like say the famous “Once More with Feeling” episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. This is what Carver had to say:

I think it’ll be one of the more amusing and engaging episodes we’ve done in a while. I think we can safely call this a meta episode. We’re going pretty meta. I would just describe it as something of a love letter to our fans and there will be songs.

He then went on to confirm that there would be more than one song, but he refused to say whether stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles will be singing. When asked if the episode would feature cover songs or originals, he replied:

There will be a little of both. It’s just going to be real fun and it’s a real celebration of the show and particularly the fans of the show.

Fans have been dying to see a musical episode of Supernatural for years, especially since the series features music so prominently, such as Dean’s beloved classic rock. “Fan Fiction” will be the third episode title that explicitly references fan tropes, the other two being season seven’s “Slash Fiction” (which did not contain any actual slash) and season nine’s “Meta Fiction.” Will this episode deal with the fans of the in-show Supernatural series? Will it actually feature fans and the stories they write? Let the speculation begin!

The tenth season of Supernatural premieres Tuesday, October 7 on the CW. The 200th episode will be the fifth one of the new season.

So what do you think? Is this not the greatest news ever? What songs do you hope they’ll sing? Sound off in the comments!
