Chloe Grace Moretz, Darren Criss to Lend Voices to New Studio Ghibli Film

Studio Ghibli has announced the English voice cast for their newest film, The Tale of The Princess Kaguya.  Chloe Grace Moretz will voice the titular character, a girl who was found in a stalk of bamboo and grows into an enthralling young woman.  In addition to Moretz, Darren Criss, James Caan, Lucy Liu, Beau Bridges, and others will be lending their voices to the project.  The film is set to be released in the US on October 17, 2014.

The Tale of The Princess Kaguya theatrical posterPrincess Kaguya is based on the folk tale The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.  It follows Kaguya’s life after she is discovered in a bamboo stalk by a bamboo cutter and taken to live with him and his wife.  She begins to grow from the tiny girl into a human size.  As she grows, she attracts the attention and desire of many and brings fortune to her adoptive family.  Ultimately, she must face the fate ascribed to her before she was found in the bamboo stalk.

Darren Criss announced his involvement in the film via a tweet on July 15.  This will be Criss’ second Studio Ghibli film following his role as Katayama in the English version of The Wind Rises in early 2014.
